Receipts for perlite. Mixtures to grow plants
Light mixtures with perlite can be used to grow house plants. Below we suggest to you a few receipts of preparing such mixtures.

Light mixture for growing plants without soil
The mixture composition: 50% of peat peatmoss and 50% of garden perlite (by volume). Since materials in this mixture are virtually inert it is very important to enrich them with necessary fertilizers sufficient to keep the plants alive and kicking over the entire period of their growth.

To prepare 0.75 m3 of the light mixture for pots you will need:

Name of componentVolume
Agroperlite0,37 m3
Large-sized peat0,37 m3
20% of superphosphate1360 g
Dolomite 3175 g
Slaked soda115 g
Muriate of Potash142 g
The complete mixture will have the proportion of5-10-5 1360 g

Mixture supplemented with soil

Such mixture should be prepared of the following components:

Name of componentVolume
Agroperlite0.25 m3
Large-sized peat0.25 m3
Soil0.25 m3

It should be noted that in order to ensure sufficient water drainage and consequently the maximal plant growth it is recommended to put at the bottom of the pot 5 cm of wet perlite.

Hothouse racks
Hothouse racksThe following mixture is deemed best suited for growing plants in hothouses: 1/3 of perlite, 5 parts of peat and 1/3 parts of soil.

Also, for container mixtures you can use the standard mix with nutrient additives. To do this, you need to add one portion of wet peat or other organic fertilizer to one portion of the moistened garden perlite. After that, you need to apply the mixture to the lot that is to be planted by thoroughly mixing or cultivating 15 to 20 cm of the upper soil layer. Then you can add necessary fertilizers.

Seedlings remains unharmed thanks to …. perlite
Seedlings remains unharmed thanks to …. perlitePerlite is irreplaceable in the case if you decide to grow seedlings. It is the perfect drainage tool that “knows” how to save moisture that is so crucial to young plants. Besides, perlite does not soak, compress or stick to roots. That means that you can pull them from the soil and transplant without any problems. On the other hand, you can use soil with perlite many times; when used for a long time it prevents earth from getting chapped.

Cloning with perlite

Mix one portion of wet perlite with one portion of moistened peat and fill it in the place the seedlings are planted. Then put the sapling in this mixture and warm it well.

                                                       Planting seeds
Planting seeds with perlite To plant seeds you can prepare the following mixture: 50% of wet perlite (grade Ì-100 small, fraction 0.16 - 1.25 mm) and 50% of wet peat. Fill with it the pots after which put on the top the sifted through the hair sieve peatmoss or peat (15 mm). You can plant seeds in this mixture and if the need is to cover them with the sifted material.

If you have decided to plant seeds in the seedbed to get the better yield it is recommended to apply 2.5 cm of wet perlite and one inch of wet peatmoss on 15 cm of the bed ground. Afterwards, thoroughly level off the surface and plant the seeds.

Perlite “package”

For saplings
Mix the half volume of the wet perlite with half volume of moistened peat, squeeze dry and pack the saplings or plants in usual manner.

For bulbs
To be able to maintain the permanent temperature and moisture conditions for roots and bulbs you should pour at the bottom of the pot one inch of perlite, insert the plant and cover it with perlite. If necessary you may sprinkle some water on the pot’s content.

The golf courses, stadiums and city trees are green thanks to perlite Green grass
The grass cover of golf courses, stadiums and city trees have to absorb moisture, withstand drought and, if possible, be able to sustain compression. The immaculate results in this sense can be achieved when using medium fraction agroperlite. To plant grass the following mixture is recommended: 70% of sand, 20% of perlite and 10% of nitrohumus.

This mix was used to grass many stadiums throughout the world that remain emerald green for many years. For instance the gold course Woodley has been operating for 10 years, course Ensino for 7 years, Hensen - 7 years. According to specialists, golf courses planted with agroperlite can withstand 100.000 rounds. After downpours the water is quickly absorbed and the play can be resumed.

An interesting fact

  • About 10 % of the world perlite is used in agro sector.
  • In soils saturated with radioactive nuclides thanks to perlite you can grow ecologically clean produce. To this effect, you need to modify perlite by applying specific absorbents on its surface. In soils filled with such agroperlite migration of radioactive nuclides takes place by way of water moving along the route: soil - agroperlite-plants. Radioactive nuclides are checked by agroperlite and do not pass on to plants.
