Norwegian forests were saved by perlite

Forests of Norway were “saved” by perlite

Since 1971 virtually all Norwegian forests were grown with help of perlite. According to the counsellor of the Norwegian Forester Society, doctor Kemun Nohman, earlier for these purposes 100% peat was used. However, the foresters faced a major problem as the peat surface in the North tends to get overgrown with moss, which preclude the air from accessing the seeds.
The problem becomes of most grave proportions if lands are used over long periods of time. The solution of this issue was to use perlite. Today Norwegian substrates contain 25 to 30% of perlite. It reduces the moisture requirements and peat dispersivity plus decreases the compression of substrate over time.

54% of Spanish hothouses use perlite

54% of Spanish hothouses use perlite

Lately in Almeria (Spain) the approach to farming was thoroughly revised. In many hothouses of the country specialists started to aggressively use perlite. It allowed to get by far higher yields from small planting areas. As of today in Almeria there are 30 thousand hectares of greenhouses in operation that produce 2.7 million tons of vegetables, which constitutes 54% of all Spanish hothouses.
Thanks to this magic baton Almeria from the poorest province turned into one of the ten richest in the country.

Grass "loves" perlite

Grass surfaces “love” perlite

All over the world, Circulite is widely used to grow green surfaces for sport grounds. For example, in India the field of the Dzhavaharlal Neru stadium was planted with perlite-based mixtures. The climatic conditions in India are notorious for their deleterious effect on the play-ground grass surfaces. The reason is the constant alternation of rain season (June - September) and drought season (October - March). However, thanks to perlite the green surfaces remain luxuriant and green notwithstanding the whims of weather.
